What is Mica wallpaper?
Mica stone wallpaper is a highly versatile option that can be suitable in many different spaces and appeals to a wide range of people. It has lots of unique sensory properties that give it big impact without overwhelming a space with bold patterns or graphics.
Can you put wallpaper on popcorn walls?
Wallpapering directly over textured walls will result in some very unattractive, bumpy wallpaper. The best way to smooth out your wall is by skimming it with a joint compound. If done right, this step will fill in the all the unevenness in the wall, creating a nice smooth surface your wallpaper can adhere too.
The difference on installation of Mica and other wallpaper material
Mica wallcoverings are manufactured with mineral stones and, understandably, these will vary. Some small mica particles may come loose during transport or during installation. Generally, this is because there is a“surplus”of mica, and there will be no marks left on the wallcovering. However,if after installation you notice some empty spots because of lacking mica, these can be mended by glueing loose mica particles into these areas (taken from a left over piece of wallcovering),with a transparent non-staining adhesive.
Using a hard joint roller or a palette will damage the materials as you can see in the pictures below.
Most natural and textile wallcoverings are more fragile and you will need to use a soft rubber roller.
